East And Southeast Asia Community Conservation Network

Established in 2021, the East and Southeast Asia Community Conservation Network (EASACCN) now has 19 organizations from 8 countries (China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Lao PDR, and Vietnam).

Since its establishment, 7 pilot projects were implemented through member organization collaborations involving 51 communities in 6 countries, including 20 communities for mangrove conservation, 20 communities for terrestrial forest protection, 8 communities for environmental education, 2 communities for combatting illegal wildlife trade, 1 community for renewable energy access. Here are some achievements:

EASACCN enhance the management and protection of 20,553 ha of coastal and terrestrial forest with participation of 40 villages in Myanmar, the Philippines and Indonesia. In China and Lao PDR, we engaged 2 villages with over 30 households respectively in Xishuangbanna, China and Phongsaly province in Lao PDR near the border to protect nearly 20,000 ha of wildlife habitat to against illegal wildlife trade (IWT). In Thailand, over 200 students from 3 schools covering 8 villages in Thailand received mangrove education program.

In Indonesia, 54 families in West Kalimantan replaced electricity generators with solar-powered lighting household systems with the payments of ecological services and Social Entrepreneurship (small business) program. In total, 97,200 litres of diesel fuel were saved with a reduction of 252.72 tonnes CO2 emissions every year.

We established 22,319 USD of rotating funds for the 2 villages located in China-Lao border to develop sustainable livelihoods against IWT with an increase of $1,512 USD per family every year. In Myanmar, the 27 communities increased their incomes by 17% in average from $1127.45 to $1319.1 USD per year. In Indonesia, the mangrove communities increased their income by 49% ($3,396 USD) per year due the empowerment of women groups. The community who started to use solar power in Indonesia saved $1,776 USD per family without diesel fuel and were more flexible to use electricity.
