April 27, 2022 - The East and Southeast Asia Community Conservation Network (EASACCN) held its 2022 quarterly meeting via Zoom, bringing together representatives from various member organizations and new partners. Hosted by Ms. Yunzhu Chen from the Global Environment Institute (GEI), the meeting focused on recent updates, idea sharing, and introductions of new members and partners.

Key Updates and New Members:Ms. Chen opened the meeting by welcoming new members including the Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association, Sichuan Haihui Poverty Alleviation Service Center, and Oceanus Conservation. She also introduced new external partners, the International Land Conservation Network (ILCN) from the United States and RECOFTC from Thailand.

Project Highlights:

  1. YAGASU Foundation: Mr. Bambang discussed their coastal restoration project aimed at carbon credits and green livelihoods, emphasizing its success in sustainable mangrove management and community resilience over the past 17 years. The project focuses on a 2,500-hectare area and seeks global cooperation for further expansion.

  2. BUKLURAN: Mr. Gervani highlighted the importance of integrating indigenous peoples' traditional knowledge with scientific methods to enhance biodiversity conservation. Their project includes detailed mapping and resource inventory in indigenous territories, which has been recognized globally for its inclusive conservation approach.

New Member Introductions:

  1. International Land Conservation Network (ILCN): Ms. Shenmin Liu presented ILCN's mission to connect organizations focused on private and civic sector conservation. The network aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen land and water resource conservation globally.

  2. Sichuan Haihui Poverty Alleviation Service Center: Mr. Jack Li outlined Haihui's extensive poverty alleviation and community development projects across China. The organization collaborates with various social groups to support sustainable community development and international charity initiatives.

  3. RECOFTC: Ms. Jenna introduced RECOFTC's work in community forestry, emphasizing a human rights-based approach to poverty alleviation and sustainable development. Their projects span 10 landscapes and focus on gender equality, deforestation prevention, and climate change mitigation.

  4. Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association: Ms. Jiangyan Liu discussed their efforts in marine conservation, including pollution monitoring, marine science education, and community engagement in fishery management. The organization aims to balance human demands with marine ecosystem protection through sustainable practices.

Conclusion:Ms. Chen concluded the meeting by reiterating the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing among member organizations. She expressed optimism for future projects and partnerships that will strengthen community conservation efforts across East and Southeast Asia.

The meeting showcased EASACCN's commitment to fostering innovative conservation projects and building strong networks to address environmental challenges in the region.
